Why Commission a Portrait?

To have a portrait painted is to ask who and what you are, not just what you look like. You should appreciate the style of the artist you choose and he prepared for your portrait to be a blend of artistic style and the influences of your face and form and countenance. This portrait is a work of art which should last generations and should tell about you, the artist and the time in which you both live.

Why choose me to paint you?

If you are moved by my use of color and line that’s a good place to start. What l enjoy is seeing into another person. I usually come to your home and take a couple of rolls of film where l will pose you and get a feel for your personality and features. I combine the sense I have of you with the photographs I’ve taken to create the portrait.  Along the way, I choose which aspects of you to enhance to best impact the viewer of the portrait. Color and mood and shape are all intuitive choices for me and they come together in your portrait to “speak” to the viewer. I include a piece of writing about you and your portrait.  Since I enjoy both writing and painting this allows me to give you a very comprehensive vision.

What medium do I use?

Watercolor or water-based oil on either paper or board.

What size will the Portrait be?

That’s up to you and l to decide.

How much time should you allow?

Once we begin, you may have your portrait as soon as two weeks or as long as two months since this is a truly creative process and should not be rushed.
